God is in the details.
We wholeheartedly believe that He knows what He's doing, and we feel like our story speaks to that.
We both have family members who went to Anderson University and spoke highly of it, ultimately landing us both in that charming small town. Due to a change of major and crashing a meeting, we ended up at the same table for lunch one day. This was the start of it all. Riveting, I know!
The next semester, we shared quite a few classes, one of which was American Sign Language. It's not technically a romance language, but we might beg to differ... One night, April 14 to be exact, Kieran worked up the courage to hit send on a text he had read quite a few times: "Hey, would you be down to review/practice ASL before the exam comes up? We have similar schedules so I thought it might be helpful for both of us to go over it together." Courtney, enjoying the President's Gala, looked down at the notification and dropped her jaw. The boy she had been secretly staring at in studio, the boy who she had been following back and forth from classes, hoping to get next to him in the Chick-fil-A line, is asking to do something outside of class?!?
Spoiler alert: There's no talking in ASL. We talked most of the time in these "study sessions." Not much ASL exam prep happened, whoops. In our defense, we both got 100s on the exam and you're here celebrating us now so it was a win-win if we do say so ourselves.
The rest of the school year consisted of very late nights, even in the midst of staying up for projects. We stayed up way later than we should have, but neither of us regret it. We got to know each other in our tired, silly, crazy states, sharing life stories, laughs, and cries until the sun started rising. Sounds cheesy, but we're not kidding. We were very exhausted the next day. Did that stop us from staying up late the next night? Nope.
We waited for summer to go on our first official date. It was the first day of break, May 4, better known as Star Wars Day. Any nerd's dream, a Star Wars anniversary. We played mini golf, Kieran won per usual, and then we headed to the South Carolina Botanical Gardens. Sitting on a bench with a lake view, Courtney said yes to being Kieran's girlfriend.
Fast forward many great memories later, about 100 yards from that park bench (and after yet another round of mini golf, of course), we said yes to forever!
God found us in states of not wanting a relationship. He laughed. Here's to the Wilsons!
